Hermanus Night Shelter patron, Penny Streeter, has a”Heart for the Homeless”. Who better to act as Patron of the Hermanus Night Shelter Association [HNSA] than well-known, self-made entrepreneur, Penny Streeter?

This formidable and respected businesswoman, who herself experienced the trauma of living in homeless accommodation with her three children in the UK, went on to build a hugely successful global medical staffing empire. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire [OBE] and has a long list of business awards while fast making inroads into the wine industry. While she describes herself as “just an ordinary person” she comes across as driven but warm, friendly and down to earth.

Born in Zimbabwe and schooled in Johannesburg, her business was founded in the UK and relocated to Cape Town in 2004. Today she is, inter alia, the owner of Benguela Cove and has close business ties to the greater Hermanus area. The Governing Body of the HNSA expressed their sincere appreciation to Penny for caring about the homeless and for coming on board at a time when they need all the support they can get for this worthy project. A short groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to commence on the 5th April 2018 at the building site, which is off the R43 opposite Rotary Drive.

Penny will ‘turn the first sod” and various local dignitaries, special guests and donors, as well as the media and sponsors, will be invited to be present at this happy and memorable occasion. We are also extending an open invitation to members of the Hermanus community to join us on site to celebrate this event. On Monday, 9th April 2018 the construction crew will commence with site establishment and preparation followed by trenching, laying foundations etc.

Capital funding, to fully complete the project, is still being sought and a dedicated fundraiser has joined the team to strengthen and focus attention on this shortcoming. HNSA trusts that the ceremony, plus building activities to follow, will raise the profile and awareness levels around the project and that sponsors and major donors will step up to the plate. More information about the Hermanus Night Shelter Association, it’s activities and progress at the construction site will be posted on our Facebook page so please visit it and Like the page.
