With “oohs” and “aahs”, and “oh my, look how pretty”, more than 200 guests filled the beautifully decorated Sandbaai Hall on Saturday night 1 Octo-ber for the inaugural Village Seniors’ Dance. This music and dinnerdance event for senior citizens was organised by a community committee chaired by Janet Hugo of Sterling Private Wealth.
Janet’s interest was piqued when she heard about a school in Canada that has hosted a senior dance annually for 28 years in a row. Thus inspired, Janet contacted the headmaster of Hermanus High School, Greg Hassenkamp, to collaborate on this project.
The school agreed to have this year’s matric dance on the Friday in the Sandbaai Hall. With the venue already decorated it created a fairytale setting for the Seniors’ Dance. Mayor Rudolph Smith said in his welcoming speech the Municipality is committed to ensuring the Overstrand stays a safe and affordable haven for the elderly.
“You, as the elders of this community, have done your part for your town and country. We are indebted to you and we want to learn from your wisdom,” said Rudolph.
Mike and Nadine Fairbrother said the ball was a splendid evening with everything perfect from start to finish. “Credit must also go to the caterers for the excellent meal. It is no easy task to provide top-quality food for so many people.”
