What a great share by Duncan Butchart who was out doing a shorebird survey at the Bot River Lagoon where this little deceased creature was found washed-up on the mud fringe by Carin Malan.

It’s a Longsnout pipefish and a close relative of the seahorse, said to spend its life in estuarine shallows where eelgrass (Zostera capensis) grows.
